Kanye West Makes Major Updates to ‘Life of Pablo’
Kanye West has updated 12 songs on his seventh LP, The Life of Pablo, the most significant slate of changes he’s made to the album since its February release.
The changes feature a few new alternate vocal takes and lyrics, but mainly comprise mix and production tweaks. Fans on the sub-Reddit hiphopheads and the West forum, KanyeToThe, have begun compiling detailed rundowns of the changes.
Among the more significant alterations: Opener “Ultra Light Beam” features new lyrics from Chance the Rapper and gospel star Kirk Franklin; “Feedback” has been shortened and given a beat overhaul; and the Weeknd’s chorus on “FML” now features additional background vocals.
West previously changed Life of Pablo cut, “Wolves,” adding Sia and Vic Mensa (who appeared on the song when it premiered last year), and turning Frank Ocean’s outro into its own song, “Frank’s Track.” He also made minor changes to “Famous.” West has tweeted that The Life of Pablo is a “living breathing changing creative expression.”
The latest version of The Life of Pablo is available to listen to on Tidal. The streaming service has so far been the only place to hear the album, though as Pitchfork reported yesterday, download codes were sent out to those who purchased tickets to watch West’s Madison Square Garden album premiere. Per Mashable, the album will also reportedly be available to stream on Apple Music and Spotify on Friday, April 1st, though representatives for the services and West did not immediately reply to Rolling Stone‘s requests for confirmation.
