Lou Barlow Announces ‘Transitional’ New Solo LP ‘Brace the Wave’
Dinosaur Jr. bassist and Sebadoh frontman Lou Barlow will release his new solo LP Brace the Wave, his first album in six years, on September 4th. “Brace the Wave is an acoustic-electric record recorded with electricity on analog-digital and digitally-analog equipment,” Barlow jokes in a teaser that features snippets of many of the album’s tracks. Barlow’s last solo album was 2009’s Goodnight Unknown.
Pre-orders for the nine-track Brace the Wave are up now at Joyful Noise and a run a 500 hand-numbered VIP copies are available on pink and seafoam marbled vinyl. Of that limited edition run, 100 will house an original Lou Barlow Polaroid “selfie” in the artwork.
Brace the Wave was recorded in Easthampton, Massachusetts with producer Justin Pizzoferrato, who previously worked on Dinosaur Jr.’s last three albums, Beyond, Farm and I Bet on Sky. The album, which captures Barlow “exploring yet another transitional period in his life” with folk-tinged songs written during the recording process, as well as some tracks crafted for a down-tuned ukulele.
While Barlow is currently on the road with Dinosaur Jr., he’ll hit the road in support of his new album with a nine-date solo trek that kicks off September 8th in Boston.
