Pusha T, The-Dream Exorcise Demons in Haunting ‘M.F.T.R.’ Video
Pusha T and The-Dream dance and deal with the devil in the haunting new video for “M.F.T.R.” off the former’s new album, King Push: Darkest Before the Dawn – the Prelude.
The clip opens with Pusha T mid-confessional, seeking advice about an unsettling, unspecified dream. From there, the rapper and The-Dream stalk the pews of an empty, cavernous church where they’re eventually joined by a menacing, cigar-smoking figure. Their dealings with the ominous man are intercut with shots of Pusha doing his best Linda Blair, climbing the walls while a priest futilely tries to exorcise his demons.
The “M.F.T.R.” video features footage also used in the Darkest Before Dawn short film Pusha T released last week alongside the LP. Both were directed by Kid Art.
Darkest Before Dawn follows the Clipse rapper’s 2013 solo LP, My Name Is My Name, and also marks his first since being named president of G.O.O.D. Music, the label originally founded by Kanye West. Pusha T will embark on a 28-date North American trek in support of the album next March.
As for The-Dream, today the singer surprise-released a Sam Cooke covers album, IAMSAM, which he secretly recorded in 2010 while working on Beyoncé’s 4 (that album, coincidentally, boasts the ballad “1 + 1,” which culls from Cooke’s “Wonderful World”). The eight-track collection includes renditions of “Cupid,” “A Change Is Gonna Come” and “Twisting The Night Away.”
