See Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban Duet on ‘American Idol’
It was eight years ago that Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban teamed up for a run of co-headlining shows, the aptly titled Love, Pain and the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride tour — a combo moniker of their respective albums at the time. The American Idol victor opened each show, returning halfway through Urban’s set to sing Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty’s 1981 hit, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” backed by her tourmate on guitar and vocals.
It’s obviously a cherished memory for the two, as they chose to recreate the duet on Thursday night’s series finale of Idol — and this time with more swagger than ever before. After a quick six-string shredding intro by the Idol judge, Underwood seduces the (close-up) cameras with a little grit and a lot of attitude. Her vocals more than justify her throne as the most successful Idol winner of all time, and his guitar playing is, as always, the stuff of legend.
Underwood and Urban continue their run of collaborations on the outgoing Idol judge’s upcoming album, Ripcord. They duet on “The Fighter,” a song Urban says was screaming for a female voice. “Carrie’s voice immediately came to mind,” he says. “I can’t wait for people to hear it — and hope that we get to do it live.”
Ripcord hits stores May 6th.
