A Thousand Horses on Country’s Band Resurgence: Ram Report
With groups like Old Dominion, the Cadillac Three, LANco and new Warner Music Nashville signees the Last Bandoleros, country music is experiencing a resurgence of the band. A Thousand Horses, who mix polished country with gritty Southern rock and soul, are also helping lead the charge.
Driven by the core group of singer Michael Hobby, guitarists Zach Brown and Bill Satcher, and bassist Graham Deloach, A Thousand Horses say the influx of bands bodes well for both their style of music and the genre overall.
“We’re a band, we grew up together and moved here together, and have known each other a long time,” says Hobby. “There’s more bands now than there ever has been, which is really great to see with Parmalee and Cadillac Three and Old Dominion. It’s cool to see that thing starting to be accepted and come together.”
The band’s first single “Smoke” became a Number One hit and they recently released the hard-charging “Southernality” to radio. A celebration of all things Southern, Hobby says the title track to their Dave Cobb-produced debut album is universally relatable, regardless of geography.
“It’s mostly just about being proud of who you are and where you come from,” he says. “We just wrote about our life and upbringing.”
A Thousand Horses are currently on tour with Jason Aldean and are nominated for New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year at the April 3rd ACM Awards.
