What Happens if Kanye West Actually Redesigns the Clippers’ Mascot?
Earlier this week, Kanye West made it clear he had big problems with Chuck the Condor, the Los Angeles Clippers’ kneepad-wearing, winged Poochie of a mascot, reaching out to team owner Steve Ballmer with an offer to redesign the bird for the betterment of mankind.
Ballmer responded, first inviting West to lunch to discuss the project, then upping the ante by offering to take him to a game instead. Kanye agreed to meet up, adding that he had just been hanging out with Clippers guard Chris Paul (no word on whether they discussed Chuck). And while the very idea of the Ballmer and West – two of the most combustible people on the planet – getting together to discuss draping a California Condor in expensive fabrics is amazing, perhaps we’re missing the larger point: This is actually happening.
And based on the looks West unveiled at last month’s Yeezy Season 3 fashion show/Life of Pablo listening party, Chuck could be in for a pretty dramatic makeover – at the very least, he’ll definitely be losing those Chuck Taylor high-tops.
But that’s all speculation. After all, it’s far too early to get a sneak peek at any of ‘Ye’s potential redesigns, but that hasn’t stopped us from throwing together a few ideas (it’s like our very own mood board) that draw from some of his boldest looks, dating all the way back to those shutter shades he was sporting in the Graduation era. Whether or not any of these show up on the Yeezified Chuck is anybody’s guess – but if they do, he’d instantly become the most fashion-forward mascot in the NBA.
Or, at the very least, he’d be cooler than G-Wiz.
