Watch the Exciting New Trailer for Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’
Last April’s Daredevil series made it clear that Marvel wants to lean on Netflix as the home for all of their “grittier” superhero shows (i.e. not Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and the comic book giant has long promised that Jessica Jones would be an even darker streaming series than their first. Visually speaking, that might be a tall order — Daredevil was so under-lit that many of its scenes were only visible by nerdy lemurs — but an intense new trailer for the superhero drama makes it seem like Marvel plans to make good on their promise.
Jessica Jones (Breaking Bad star Krysten Ritter, long overdue for her breakout role) may be a relatively recent addition to the Marvel Universe — created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, she first appeared in November 2001’s Alias #1. But she’s seen more heavy shit in the last 14 years than most of her kind ever will. Following a tragic stint in the superhero game, Jones hung up her costume in favor of becoming a private detective, Manhattan’s very own Veronica Mars. But spandex is hard to take off, and the Netflix series begins with Jones learning that her sadistic nemesis, Zebediah Killgrave (Doctor Who alum David Tennant) isn’t quite out of her life — or her head — just yet.
Superhero promos tend to be shy about this sort of thing, but Netflix’s trailer makes it perfectly clear that Jessica Jones is going to be an all-out fight to the death with Killgrave, the ultimate stalker. “He’s back,” Ritter intones, “and he’s coming for me.” Something tells us that will prove to be a really bad idea.
Co-starring Carrie-Anne Moss and Mile Colter (who plays Luke Cage, the subject of Marvel’s next streaming series), all 13 episodes of Jessica Jones will launch on Netflix on November 20 at 12:01am PT.
