Watch the Mountain From ‘Game of Thrones’ Set World Keg-Tossing Record
As if his back-to-back wins in the Europe’s Strongest Man competition did not already clue you in to this fact, here’s your daily reminder that Hafthor Bjornsson – better known to Game of Thrones fans as Gregor “The Mountain That Rides” Clegane – is capable of some staggering feats of strength.
In the video above, Bjornsson can be seen breaking his own world record (of course) by grabbing a 33-pound keg and tossing it an amazing 24 feet, 6 inches into the air. Why? Well, when you’ve already deadlifted 990 pounds and bested millennium-old Viking physical challenges you’re probably looking for ways to challenge yourself. Also, we’re going to assume his sparring partner, UFC champ Conor McGregor, was busy or something. Dude does have a fight to train for.
After competing his record-setting toss, Bjornsson thrusts his finger in the air and contemplates pulling off a back flip – though instead, he opts to grab a guy with a microphone and sling him over his shoulder before triumphantly blowing kisses to the crowd. At least he didn’t crush anyone’s skull this time.
Game of Thrones‘ sixth season is set to premiere in April – and Bjornsson will presumably be back, too. Only this time, he won’t be playing Clegane; but rather the zombiefied Ser Robert Strong, who is most definitely scarier than the Mountain and has vowed not to speak until all of Queen Cersei’s enemies have been vanquished. No word on whether he’s also given up keg tossing.
