Watch Rick Ross Talk ‘Miami Vice’ Influence, His First Screenplay
Rick Ross is preparing to add screenwriter to his résumé. The prolific rapper — who just released his third album in two years, Black Market — revealed to Rolling Stone the details of his first film script, GABOS.
Inspired by the Netflix series Narcos, Ross’ film, the name of which stands for “Game Ain’t Based on Sympathy,” was originally intended to be a single movie. “I feel it’s too big to be one film,” he says. “I feel we should film it, break it down and make it a series, if we can.”
GABOS is inspired by Ross’ personal life and his “recollections.” Underdog gangster stories influenced his work heavily, and he promises a “groundbreaking” piece of work. “The only thing better than a double-cross is a triple-cross,” he teases of the film’s plot.
Ross describes the experience of writing a screenplay as “easy,” having grown up on the TV show Miami Vice, which inspired him to seek a “colorful, explosive” vision. “Writing a film, you can bring it all to life, whether it’s for yourself or another character in a film,” he says.
Ross has not detailed when GABOS will be filmed or released.
