See Kelsea Ballerini Duet With Charles Kelley on ‘Need You Now’
Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley is currently touring solo in support of his forthcoming LP, but he revisited Lady A’s signature hit “Need You Now” with Kelsea Ballerini‘s help while performing at CityPlace in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday (January 5th).
Ballerini was vacationing in West Palm Beach and surprised Kelley before their performance. When he invited her to join him on stage to fill in for fellow Lady A member Hillary Scott on the group’s monster hit, the singer introduced her to the crowd as one of Scott’s best friends, saying, “I can’t wait for her to see this on YouTube. This’ll be great. You gotta make her proud!”
The pressure was on for the “Dibs” singer, who took Scott’s place delivering the song’s pleading first verse. As the pair finished the first chorus together, the crowd — and Kelley — showed their approval for Scott’s temporary stand-in. The next day, Kelley tweeted, “cool of @KelseaBallerini to show last night and sing @HillaryScottLA part with me on “need you now”. gal can sing.”
Kelley announced early last month that several of his solo tour dates are being rescheduled for the first part of 2016. Late in 2015, he earned his 12th Grammy nomination for his solo recording “The Driver,” which ironically came in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category due to guest vocalists Eric Paslay and Dierks Bentley.
“‘The Driver’ is the last eight years of my life put in a song,” Kelley tells Rolling Stone Country. “That appreciation for the audience, that appreciation for your road family, and doing what you love to do.”
Kelley’s next date on the book is a stop in Harvey, Louisiana, on January 22nd. The Driver Tour picks up again in April.
