See Martin Short Reprise ‘Jiminy Glick’ in Absurd Drake Interview
Martin Short revived his famed ‘Jiminy Glick’ character for his new variety show Maya & Marty with an absurd interview with “living legend of rapsterdom,” Drake.
“This is so much fun for me because normally I interview celebrities,” Glick says. From there, the critic asks why some people don’t listen to rap and joke about how he has never heard a single song by Drake, including his Number One hit “One Dance” off Views. “I have a feeling that if I heard it, I’d switch it off,” Glick adds. “But that’s not a negative statement. It’s a statement about your power — your power to keep me interested for that full four seconds until I can reach over and switch. That’s a gift.”
Glick also brings up Drake’s circumcision and makes fun of his lack of “street cred” for being a Canadian child star, though the critic thinks that having the name Aubrey may boost his credibility. Halfway through, the interview switches to more general inquiries from Glick, who sits on Drake’s lap, offers him doughnuts and a “ritualistic steam bath.”
