Watch Gwen Stefani Rock Space Shorts, Bring ‘Misery’ to ‘SNL’
A decade after Gwen Stefani‘s last Saturday Night Live visit – and nearly 20 years after No Doubt made their SNL debut – the ageless singer returned to 30 Rock to perform a pair of singles off her new solo LP This Is What the Truth Feels Like.
For her opening performance, Stefani delivered the bouncy “Make Me Like You” backed by a band that included longtime No Doubt multi-instrumentalists Gabrial McNair and Stephen Bradley. Later in the episode, Stefani brought “Misery,” This Is What the Truth Feels Like‘s opening track and latest single, with the singer showcasing her vocal chops during the track’s atmospheric outro.
Before Stefani’s two musical guest spots, the singer made a surprise appearance in the “Mafia Meeting” sketch, where two low-level, debt-ridden mobsters are confronted by their gun-toting boss, only to be distracted by host Peter Dinklage in a Sia wig singing about “space pants.” Towards the end of the sketch, Dinklage’s character sings, “Now joining me onstage for my grand finale is my extremely close friend, Gwen Stefani,” who then emerged wearing “shorts from a galaxy, far far away.”
Stefani’s boyfriend and “Misery” inspiration Blake Shelton tweeted to Stefani after the sketch, “Please wear space pants when you get back home!”
Hey @gwenstefani… Please wear space pants when you get back home!!! Ha!!!!
