‘Making a Murderer’ Lawyers Plot North American Speaking Tour
Lawyers for Making a Murderer subject Steven Avery will discuss the hit true-crime docu-series during a 26-city North American speaking tour that begins this spring, The Capital Times reports.
According to the tour’s website, Dean Strang and Jerry Buting will discuss Avery’s case and its broader implications, as well as the criminal justice system as a whole. The events will also feature an audience Q&A session.
Strang and Buting will kick off their “A Conversation on Justice” trek April 16th at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston, and wrap August 21st at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Tickets for all shows will go on sale March 4th at 10 a.m. local time, and will be available via the “Conversation for Justice” website. A complete list of dates is below.
Strang and Buting garnered a cult fanbase thanks to Making a Murderer, which examines the intricacies of Avery’s case and presents the theory that he was framed for the murder of Teresa Halbach by Manitowoc County law enforcement. In the series, and during interviews after it became a phenomenon, Strang and Buting said they suspected law enforcement officials of foul play, such as tampering with the jury and planting evidence.
Avery is currently serving a life sentence for Halbach’s murder. He was convicted of the crime in 2005, two years after being exonerated by DNA evidence in an unrelated rape case for which he served 18 years. Avery was also in the process of suing Manitowoc County for $36 million when he was slapped with the murder charge.
