See Margo Price Slay ‘Hurtin’ (On the Bottle)’ at the Opry
The Grand Ole Opry has seen its share of trucker hats and heard its share of party songs in recent years, but leave it to Margo Price to bring things back to the days of Patsy Cline’s foot-long fringe (and her tales of forlorn romance) for her debut at the legendary Nashville institution last month.
Price, accompanied by members of her band as well as the Opry’s house players, performed songs from her upcoming album, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, including the single “Hurtin’ (On the Bottle).” And while the silky fringe she sported could have been snagged from the Cline or Loretta Lynn archives, her performance was everything but dusty. Price cranked up the jangly, honky-tonk groove to its highest quotient, playing with the soul of a country singer but the spitfire of a rock & roll icon. She then sealed the deal with a killer last few notes that left the Opry house in thunderous applause.
In support of her forthcoming debut on Third Man Records (out March 25), Price hits the road this spring, including stops at SXSW, Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion and Pickathon, as well as select dates with Old Crow Medicine Show.
