Charli XCX Hoists New Track ‘Trophy,’ Preps ‘Vroom Vroom’ EP
Charli XCX premiered a dynamic, punishing new song, “Trophy,” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show Tuesday.
The track is set to appear on the British pop singer’s upcoming four-track EP, Vroom Vroom, which will be available to stream and purchase on February 26th, ahead of an official March 25th release via Charli XCX‘s new label, Vroom Vroom Recordings.
Both the Vroom Vroom EP and label share a name with a track Charli XCX premiered last October while filling in for DJ Julie Adenuga on Beats 1 radio. “Vroom Vroom” was produced by PC Music associate Sophie, who recorded the rest of the EP with Charli XCX in Stockholm. A complete track list is below.
Following “Trophy,” Charli will premiere “Paradise” — which features another PC Music artist, Hannah Diamond — on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 program tomorrow, February 24th.
To mark the release of Vroom Vroom, Charli XCX will begin hosting her own Beats 1 show, which will air every two weeks at 3 p.m. ET (8 p.m. in the U.K.) starting February 26th. The pop star also has a DJ set at London’s Ace Hotel scheduled for March 11th, followed by two headlining gigs with Sophie at South by Southwest in Austin. The pair will first play the Gorilla VS Bear X Hype Machine showcase at Hype Hotel on March 17th, then the Sound Exchange show at Stubbs on the 18th.
Vroom Vroom Recordings has also shared a sampler featuring forthcoming singles from signees, RIVRS and CuckooLander. Both tracks will see official release on Friday, though a video for RIVRS “Friend/Lover” is available to watch now. CuckooLander’s “Beating Myself Up” was produced by former Vampire Weekend member, Rostam Batmanglij.
