See One Direction, James Corden Harmonize, Dance in Carpool Karaoke
One Direction looked back on their past five years of hits with a passionate assist from James Corden on The Late Late Show Tuesday night. The boy band and late-night host drove around Los Angeles for the latest installment of “Carpool Karaoke.”
Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne all crammed into Corden’s car for his drive to work. All five sang the group’s biggest hit, “What Makes You Beautiful,” with Corden gleefully taking the lead. Afterwards, they encounter a fan that had been following Payne “for weeks,” according to the 1D member. They stop and say hello before discussing the intensity of fans following their every move and even knowing where they live.
“A couple of weeks ago, I tweeted ‘There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning, and you can’t have a cup of tea because you’ve got no milk,'” Tomlinson begins. “Within an hour, someone’s ringing me bell, and I see this 45-year-old woman. She comes to the door and is like, ‘Here’s the milk.'”
During “No Control,” Corden singled out how One Direction has never fallen in line with the past conception of boy bands who dance and wear matching clothes. To amend that, Corden pulls out denim shirts for everyone in the car to wear and choreographs the chorus to the song, a fan favorite from Four that was made a single due to petitions earlier this year.
Over the course of the clip, the group also sings “Story of My Life,” “Best Song Ever,” “Drag Me Down,” and “Perfect.” In between, Corden works on his harmonies with the boys while lightly suggesting that they don’t consider a hiatus because they’re having such a great time together. “I can bring something to the band, guys!” Corden aggressively says to the group after a successful freestyle over “Drag Me Down.”
One Direction have recently begun an indefinite hiatus following the release of fifth album Made in the A.M. and the end of their On the Road Again Tour in support of fourth album Four.
