Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Talks Campaign Trail on ‘Late Show’
After harassing candidates in Iowa and New Hampshire, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog visited The Late Show to riff with Stephen Colbert about his time on the campaign trail as well as his new Hulu special documenting the presidential race. The host first questioned Robert Smigel’s foul-mouthed hand puppet’s abilities to be an “honest-to-God journalist” while still maintaining Triumph’s “lowbrow” humor.
Since the special aired, some of the candidates Triumph met have since ended their candidacies. “I interacted with a lot of them in the special, but since then, Chris Christie dropped out, I’m sorry about that,” Triumph told Colbert. “So I’m worried: Now that he’s not running for president, I’m worried Chris Christie might let himself go. I noticed this: Even though he’s out of the races, he still has a $100,000-a-plate dinner scheduled. Tomorrow at Denny’s by himself.”
Triumph also regretted that he was never encountered Carly Fiorina “face-to-facelift.”
