Watch Bob Odenkirk’s Nonsensical, One-Minute ‘Better Call Saul’ Recap
Better Call Saul Season Two premieres Monday, February 15th on AMC, but star Bob Odenkirk realizes some potential viewers may need shortcuts to get caught up. During his Thursday appearance on The Tonight Show, the actor challenged himself to summarize the Emmy-nominated first season in one minute – but given the show’s complex backstory (and its connections to Breaking Bad), that plan quickly crumbled.
“Show’s called Better Call Saul. I play Jimmy McGill,” Odenkirk says in the clip. “He is the person who becomes Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad, which – we should start there, actually. Walter White, who is the dad on – no, I should go back to the beginning; otherwise, they’re gonna be lost – Malcolm in the Middle. I never saw it, but there was a character named Malcolm. He was in the middle of something. He was a middle kid! That dad on [Breaking Bad] needed a lawyer because of something having to do with meth.”
Then he abandons all sense of reality – and genre: “I might be mixing this up with Game of Thrones, but there’s a dragon.”
Last month, AMC released a seedy trailer for the Emmy-nominated show’s second season, showing McGill continuing his descent into Saul Goodman with some deceitful legal tactics. “I’ve been doing the right thing for all these years and where has it gotten me? Nowhere,” McGill says in the clip.
