Watch Dave Grohl, Muppets Band Rock Out to ‘Learn To Fly’
Dave Grohl and Animal may have called it a draw when they battled it out during an epic drum-off on ABC’s The Muppets during Tuesday’s show, but the Foo Fighters frontman kept things rocking beyond the skins.
In the clip, Grohl meets up with Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem, Miss Piggy’s house band for her late-night show, before their performance.
“So, you guys remember how we did it in rehearsal?” Grohl asks. But it turns out, the fuzzy backup band crew prefer improvisation. “We like to do it different from rehearsal,” says Janice. “OK, well then why did we even rehearse?” Grohl questions. “OK, ’cause if we didn’t rehearse then there’s nothing to do it different from,” Floyd Pepper reasons. “You know what, actually I dig that,” Grohl says.
Grohl dons a guitar and sings while the band backs him. Meanwhile, Kermit and Gonzo contemplate whether Gonzo can make a big jump as he’s prone to do. Taking the song’s lyrics literally, Gonzo shoots himself out of a cannon, flying through the air and landing safely into a pool of water.
“I did it! I’m Gonzo the Great,” says Gonzo, to which Kermit replies, “No, you’re Gonzo the Greatest.”
This wasn’t Grohl’s first Muppets gig. He played “Animool” in the 2011 Muppet movie. The Muppets winter finale airs Tuesday, December 8th.
