‘Simpsons’ Imagine World Where Presidential Candidates All Get Along
Homer and Marge Simpson are as disappointed, enthralled and exasperated as the rest of us when it comes to the presidential election. In a new video, Marge wakes up hyperventilating to thoughts of all the candidates’ vitriolic rhetoric and bemoans the lack of “basic manners … gone from politics.”
“I know things look bad now,” Homer says. “But just try to visualize another America. One where Republicans, Democrats and Donald Trump all get along.”
From there, Marge envisions a fantasy world where all the candidates say positive sentiments about each other and sing Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You).”
The friendliness is short-lived, however, as even in a dream, the candidates can’t stop fighting. Trump and Ted Cruz argue over bankrupt casinos and Canadian births; Hillary Clinton chokes Bernie Sanders with her pearl necklace (“Goldman Sachs says, ‘Hello!'”) and Jeb Bush repudiates Trump’s “low-energy” accusation with a powerful kick to the groin.
In the end, though, the couple, like the rest of us, can’t stop watching. “Shhh. I want to see who wins,” Marge tells Homer as she goes back to sleep.
“We all do, honey,” Homer replies. “We all do.”
