Watch Kacey Musgraves Flaunt Her ‘Pageant Material’ on ‘The View’
Each year, more than 2.5 million girls and young women compete in over 100,000 U.S. beauty pageants. Not among them? Kacey Musgraves, apparently. “I ain’t pageant material,” she sings during the title track of her sophomore album, Pageant Material, which hit stores this week. Yesterday, the singer-songwriter debuted the funny, philosophical song during her appearance on ABC’s The View.
Introducing Musgraves, The View co-host Rosie Perez called the Grammy- and CMA-winning artist “a game-changer,” noting that her songs address topics in ”a new way, a 21st century way for country music.” She also revealed that “Biscuits” is a favorite song of hers. Unfortunately, country radio DJs didn’t the same way, with Musgraves announcing during her recent Bonnaroo performance that “Biscuits” has been pulled from the airwaves
“One thing that I really love about country music is that’s always been just about real life,” Musgraves explained before her View performance, noting that the title track of the LP, penned with Luke Laird and Shane McAnally, is a satirical song “poking fun at myself for not being pageant-perfect all the time.”
Also this week, Musgraves announced the upcoming dates for her Country & Western Rhinstone Revue tour, which begins August 27th in Atlanta and continues through the fall, with the visits to the U.K., Germany and the Netherlands on the trek, along with a dozen U.S. stops. Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, June 26th.
Pageant Material is the follow-up to Musgraves’ 2013 LP, Same Trailer Different Park, and is likely to top next week’s Billboard Country Albums chart.
