Hear Rare J Dilla Instrumentals in J Rocc Radio Mix
Dillatronic, a posthumous release featuring over 40 rare instrumentals from pioneering producer J Dilla, is out October 30th via Vintage Vibez Music Group. But in a recent, two-hour installment of his “Adventures in Stereo” KPFK radio show, J Rocc, renowned Los Angeles DJ and close friend of the producer, has offered a sample of the LP, Okayplayer reports.
The Dilla tracks begin around the 21:00 minute mark in the player below. Though J Rocc doesn’t specify track titles, the mix is definitive Dilla, full of his signature just-barely-offbeat drums, funky bass, psychedelic keys and soulful samples.
Throughout the show – full of classic jazz, funk, gospel and hip-hop – J Rocc also teased sprawling DJ sets from Madlib and Pete Rock from their September performances at the “Madlib Carnival,” held at Croatia’s Outlook Festival.

One of the Dilla rarities, “Dillatronic #7,” was posted to Soundcloud last month. The psychedelic track is built on kaleidoscopic synthesizers and thumping kick drums.
Dillatronic, which arrives courtesy of the late producer’s mother, Ma Dukes, will be available on CD, triple-LP and a range of deluxe packages that include T-shirts, posters, cassettes and more. Pre-order details are available at the Dillatronic site.
“I can smile in my heart, knowing my son’s work is being shared with the people as we planned before he passed,” Ma Dukes said in a statement. “I only share the best, and I only hope to continue introducing the world to the genius of J Dilla.”
The second-annual J Dilla Weekend – featuring “high-profile artists and DJs,” producer panels, BBQs, meet and greets and more – will take place February 5th to 7th in Miami.
