Watch Drake’s Blingy Super Bowl Commercial Now
Since Drake‘s Views From the 6 isn’t coming out until April, he’s got some time on his hands – and, really, there are only so many plays he can draw up for Win Butler to run in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game.
So why not star in a Super Bowl commercial?
In a new spot for T-Mobile, Drake takes us back to his heady “Hotline Bling” heyday of four months ago, reenacting the much-shared music video while a group of stuffy cellphone execs watch off camera. As soon as the director yells cut, they swarm him suggestions to make a few changes to the song – “I love changes!” Drizzy says with a shit-eating grin stretching across his face – that turn out to be little more than the kind of fine-print legalese mobile contracts are famous for.
“When you say ‘Call me on my cellphone,’ just add, ‘Device eligible for upgrade after 24 months,'” one exec urges.
“Also, you need to include that streaming music will incur data charges,” another adds.
Drake takes it all in stride (“These changes don’t ruin the song at all!” he beams) before getting back to work. And somewhere, mentor – and fellow Super Bowl 50 pitchman – Lil Wayne nodded in approval.
There’s no word just when the 30-second spot will air during Sunday’s Super Bowl 50, but it joins an already crowded field of celebrified commercials that includes Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen for Bud Light, Alec Baldwin for Amazon, and, uh, Pikachu.
