Watch Noel Gallagher Revive Oasis Demo ‘Lock All the Doors’ on ‘Fallon’
Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds touched down on The Tonight Show Wednesday night for a performance of “Lock All the Doors,” a soaring, streamlined cut off the band’s latest effort, Chasing Yesterday.
If the song’s sweet, aching melody bears a resemblance to a classic Gallagher song, it’s because “Lock All the Doors” is a track he began writing while in Oasis. A demo of the original exists, but lacks the immediacy of the new version, which Gallagher and his High Flying Birds delivered on Tonight with a riveting blend of endearing pop sensibilities and ragged, breakneck riffs.
High Flying Birds recently kicked off the North American leg of their tour behind Chasing Yesterday, which will include sets at the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta this weekend and Governors Ball in New York City this June.
Gallagher’s band will primarily play clubs stateside, a stark difference from the bigger arenas he used to fill with Oasis. While the change was startling at first, Gallagher recently told Rolling Stone he’s come to appreciate the smaller settings.
“We’d been so huge in Oasis for years and then we did this fan club thing in Cologne, Germany, and the crowd was right there and it was the first time we’ve ever done it,” Gallagher recalled. “There were these German kids and nobody said a word and it was really weird. [Oasis singer] Liam [Gallagher] was getting really stressed about the whole thing. I said, ‘Well, fuckin’ hell, that was awful.’ But the more that I do it, the more I’m really at home with it now. I can engage with the audience and we have a good laugh. So I prefer this now. It’s a funny thing; I’ve grown.”
