Hear Chvrches’ Resilient New Track ‘Never Ending Circles’
“Here’s to taking what you came for / And here’s to running off the pain,” Lauren Mayberry sings on Chvrches‘ resilient new track. “Never Ending Circles,” available above in a lyric video, is the second sampling from the Glasgow synth-pop trio’s second LP, Every Open Eye, out September 25th via Glassnote Records.
“Circles” finds Mayberry exploring her independence over the glossy synthesizers and trebly drum machines of bandmates Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. “I’ll go my way if I’m going at all,” she promises in the second verse. “This time, you know I’ll leave,” she croons on the chorus.
Chvrches announced their new LP in July and released its debut single, “Leave a Trace.” Last month, the band performed at the Pitchfork and Pemberton Music Festivals; Chvrches have festival gigs scheduled throughout the summer and into the fall, including spots at Berlin’s Lollapalooza and the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.
The Scottish band formed in 2011 and released their debut single, “The Mother We Share” the following year. The trio followed with their acclaimed debut LP, 2013’s The Bones of What You Believe, which collected their hyped early singles, including the hit “Recover,” and reached Number 12 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. That LP ranked Number Seven on Rolling Stone‘s list of the year’s 20 Best Debuts and came in at Number 32 on our round-up of 2013’s 50 Best Albums.
