Dustin Lynch Talks ‘Massive’ New Music
One of the final hurdles a country artist faces on the road to stardom is that of anonymity, because a major label deal and a song on the radio don’t mean a ton of people listening still can’t identify who’s singing. Tennessee native Dustin Lynch seems to have cleared this hurdle, following his third consecutive Number One “Mind Reader,” just a few short years into his career.
“The past couple months I’ve heard the comments from some folks and they’re like, ‘You have a sound,'” Lynch tells Rolling Stone Country. “That’s such a great feeling. When one of my records goes on the radio, it’s recognizable. I think that’s what all new artists strive for, that identity.”
It probably doesn’t hurt his profile that Lynch has spent the better part of two years on tour with his friend Luke Bryan, playing to crowds in the tens of thousands as his songs “Where It’s At” and “Hell of a Night” traveled up the chart. Amazingly, his second album Where It’s At came out way back in September 2014, despite producing just three radio singles — some evidence of how long the hit making process can take in the present.
That means Lynch — who just launched his Stay Country clothing line, because that is the sort of thing a recognizable star can do — will have a new single from a new album available very soon. He says it’ll likely be within the next three weeks, but he’s mum on details at this point beyond his optimism for how it will perform.
“It’s gonna be massive,” he says, laughing. “I can’t tell you anything. It’s like the worst timing ever.”
Lynch adds that he didn’t help compose the song (as was the case with his three Number Ones), but feels confident that it’ll be another fine example of the Dustin Lynch sound.
“No doubt about it,” he says. “Whatever that is. I don’t know what that is. I just do me.”
