Watch Sam Hunt’s Late-Night ‘Break Up’ on ‘Seth Meyers’
Sam Hunt took “Break Up in a Small Town” to the big city yesterday, performing the platinum-selling single during Wednesday night’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers.
Backed two electric guitarists, a drummer and a number of piped-in instruments, Hunt performed the splitsville tune with the confidence of someone who’s fully recovered from any sort of broken heart. He rapped the verses, crooned the chorus’s pop hooks and prowled the stage during his bandmate’s hard-rock guitar solo, his music taking cues from at least three genres during just as many minutes. Hunt may write about topics familiar to country fans, but songs like “Break Up in a Small Town” look far beyond Nashville’s city limits for inspiration.
Appropriately, Hunt — whose upcoming tour includes dates in Mexico, the U.K. and a coast-to-coast span of the U.S. — will attend the annual Grammy ceremony next month, where he’s up for a pair of awards in both the country and all-genre categories.
