Julianne Moore, John Stamos Act in Taylor Swift Soap Opera on ‘Corden’
James Corden took Taylor Swift‘s delightfully melodramatic lyrics to their logical conclusion on The Late Late Show Monday, using them as lines in a fake soap opera, The Bold and the Lyrical, co-starring Julianne Moore and John Stamos.
The sketch found Corden and Moore playing “James Cordone” and “Juliette Moore,” two young, reckless lovers who take things way too far. The scene opens when Corden, donning a ridiculous black pompadour wig, saunters home one night with a weak explanation for his whereabouts: “I’ve been cruising. Can’t stop, won’t stop moving.”
Aside from the pure thrill of watching Moore swirl a drink and over-act lines like, “‘Baby, I miss you, and I swear I’m gonna change, trust me’ — remember how that lasted for a day?”, Swift’s lyrics made for solid dramatic beats. The pair spat with lines from “Blank Space,” “You Belong With Me,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and Corden later tries to flex his bad boy status with “Darling, I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream.” Instead, Moore slaps him and yells, “Shake it off!”
With so much bad blood between them, Moore decides to let the relationship go down in flames, adding, “Never mind, I’ll find someone like you.”
“I think that’s Adele,” Corden quickly corrects her — though they both agree, great song.
Finally, Corden makes one last effort to win his Juliette, getting down on one knee with lines from “Love Story.” Unfortunately, Moore informs him they are never ever getting back together. Fortunately, John Stamos — playing “John Stamosa,” another one of Moore’s former flames — arrives, offering condolences and a night of dressing up like hipsters, making fun of ex’s and feeling 22. “Grab your passport and my hand,” Stamos adds with a glimmer in his eye. “I can make the bad guys good for a weekend.”
