Amazon Orders Supernatural Pilot from Guillermo del Toro
Amazon has ordered five new pilots that include a new collaboration from Pacific Rim duo of Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham and a series based off a 2008 Rolling Stone feature about a real-life superhero, Deadline reports.
Beacham and del Toro’s announcement follows a huge development deal they inked with Amazon Studios last year to adapt Beacham’s supernatural feature script A Killing on Carnival Row. The spec script, about a futuristic city called Burgue where a serial killer is running amok, has already become a cult classic and has been shopped around for 11 years with various directors attached. The series will now be titled Carnival Row.
A half-hour long show based off Rolling Stone‘s 2008 article “The Legend of Master Legend” has also been picked up. The Joshuah Bearman-penned feature told the story of real-life superheroes, including Master Legend and his sidekick Ace. Michah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster have adapted the piece and Bearman serves as a co-executive producer.
Gilmore Girls‘ Amy Sherman-Palladino has sold the dramedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel about a Fifties housewife who becomes one of the first female stand-up comics. The pilot orders also include Tropicana, which tells the story of The Tropicana nightclub and is set in pre-revolutionary Cuba, and Strange New Things based off Michael Faber’s 2014 book about a pastor who travels into deep space.
