Watch Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emma Watson’s Feminism Freestyle Rap
Hamilton creator and costar Lin-Manuel Miranda and actress Emma Watson showed off their freestyle and beatboxing skills in a recent video they made to celebrate International Women’s Day. The video supports UN Women’s HeForShe organization, which campaigns for a gender equal world. Watson serves as UN Women’s Global Goodwill Ambassador.
In the cute clip, which Miranda shared on his Facebook page, Watson mentions Miranda’s amazing freestyle skills and he says he’ll freestyle if Watson will beatbox. She asks him for pointers since she’s a novice and because as she jokes, “English school kids, we do that all the time, we just beatbox.” They go over why people cover their mouth to beatbox: “It’s sort of like a spit guard,” Miranda says.
Miranda raps about gender equality. “Yo, it’s Lin and I have to laugh, how can we not be equal, we’re like half. Like women are half of the people on Earth,” he spits. “And yes they should’ve been equal since birth. That means all day, every day, equal pay, every way.”
On Monday, Miranda and the Hamilton cast performed at the White House, where he impressively freestyled off government-themed words President Obama held up on cards.
