See Daniel Romano’s Trippy ‘Valerie Leon’ Video
It’s been less than a year since Daniel Romano’s If I’ve Only One Time Askin’ turned heads with its tasteful Countrypolitan and honky-tonk touches, but he’s already gearing up to release his new album Mosey on May 27th. The Canadian singer-songwriter has also released the video for the Mosey track “Valerie Leon.”
As a song, “Valerie Leon” finds Romano incorporating hints of symphonic spaghetti western music and Sixties psychedelia in with a wry, word-twisting narrative of a relationship gone sour. The video takes its cues from the past as well, matching the tune’s anxious pacing with classic footage of dancing pin-up models (including Bettie Page) and a couple circling one another in a pasodoble routine.
Currently, Romano — whose If I’ve Only One Time Askin’ was named one of Rolling Stone’s 40 Best Country Albums of 2015 — is playing a series of shows in Austin, Texas as part of SXSW. He will launch his European tour on May 26th just as Mosey hits stores on May 27th via New West Records.
