Hear Billie Joe Armstrong’s Teenage Son’s Angsty Solo Songs
Billie Joe Armstrong‘s youngest son, Jakob Danger, is the latest member of the Armstrong family to join the music business. The sixteen-year-old has recently signed to Burger Records as a solo artist.
Danger has previewed his music on his YouTube page, having posted several songs of his catchy, angsty California pop-punk tunes. The highlight is “King of the World,” with lyrics as effortless and youthful as some of Green Day‘s early Nineties tracks. “I just wanna be the king of the world,” he sings on the song’s chorus. “You have all these friends and get all the girls.”
“Waiting to Dance” and “Don’t Try” are two more tracks that show off Danger’s talents. On the latter, he veers towards early Aughts indie rock on the uptempo track. All three songs feature Danger’s older brother, Joey, on drums.
The pop-punk bug also bit Joey Armstrong at an early age. The twenty-year-old formed Emily’s Army in his early teens, though the band currently go by Swimmers (also known as SWMRS). The eldest Armstrong son opened for Wavves last month and recently released a tribute to Miley Cyrus called “Miley.” “They all criticize your latest, but I think you’re the greatest,” the band’s lead singer offers on the track. “Miley, you’re a punk rock queen.”
Green Day was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year. Though the band has not confirmed any new music, they will be releasing Heart Like a Hand Grenade, a documentary on the making of their 2004 album American Idiot, in theaters on October 15th.
