See Justin Moore Cowboy Up for Comic ‘Need a Drink’ Video
Justin Moore‘s latest single “You Look Like I Need a Drink” returns the Arkansas singer to the upbeat mix of contemporary country and honest twang that he perfected with such hits as “Til My Last Day” and “Point at You.”
While Moore has never shied away from progressing his sound (see the title track to 2013’s Off the Beaten Path), he remains most at home with traditional barroom anthems and the imagery of rural America. He still lives near his hometown of Poyen and, in his new video for “Drink,” goes full-on cowboy, saddling up a horse to track down the woman who broke his heart.
“That’s the most difficult thing, remaining true to what I love to do and to what has gotten me to this point in my career, but also sounding like today: contemporary and progressive,” Moore tells Rolling Stone Country.
It’s an internal struggle that Moore admits to fighting daily. “I’m an old soul. I dislike social media and think it contributes to a lot of the shortcomings of our society now,” he says. “I still listen to the same guys I grew up listening to: Dwight Yoakam, John Anderson, Earl Thomas Conley, Vern Gosdin, Hank Jr. No matter how hard people try to ignore them or be like them, neither of the two are ever going to happen. They’re stylists. You can’t be like them. You can’t emulate what they do. And that’s the people I’ve always been a huge fan of.”
Moore is currently on tour and will join up with Brantley Gilbert on Gilbert’s Take It Outside Tour in June.
