Scott Stapp Gives Panthers’ ‘Creedbombing’ His Stamp of Approval
By now, you are probably aware of “Creedbombing,” the phenomenon started by the Carolina Panthers during their run to Super Bowl 50.
If you’re not, here’s a quick primer: It’s basically like Photobombing, only instead of sneaking into the background of a picture, you creep up on an unsuspecting teammate and shout Creed lyrics in the deepest, raspiest, Scott Stapp-iest growl imaginable. And, as Panthers linebacker – and “Creedbombing” pioneer – Ben Jacobs explains:
“The key is you’ve got to make really deep, direct eye contact. If you Creedbomb someone, you’ve got to look them directly in the eye.”
Got it? Good. Well, it turns out Stapp himself has found out about the Panthers’ unlikely tribute, and he’s loving it – even if he is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan.
“I’ve been cheering for these guys so hard,” Stapp told the Charlotte Observer. “I had to move my tour bus like five different places so I could get reception and watch [the NFC championship game] the other night. I’m so fired up and pumped up for these guys. They are my team right now.
“Like, are you serious? This is so cool,” he continued. “I just felt like ‘Hey man, there are Creed fans on the Panthers!'”
And the “Creedbombing” train only appears to be picking up speed. After Sunday’s NFC championship win over the Arizona Cardinals, Panthers cornerback Josh Norman Creedbombed teammate Kurt Coleman during an interview, and Stapp said he’s been a victim, too.
“The next thing you know, my band is doing it to me out on tour,” he said. “And I saw the humor in it and saw how funny it was. I think it’s awesome.”
