Watch Courtney Love, Carly Rae Jepsen Cover Fleetwood Mac
Courtney Love and Carly Rae Jepsen re-interpreted rock classics during Tuesday’s all-star kickoff of Fleetwood Mac Fest, a tribute event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the band’s Rumours-era line-up, Spin reports.
Fan-shot clips found Love channeling her inner Stevie Nicks for 1977’s “Silver Springs,” a mystical ballad originally intended for the mega-platinum Rumours but released as the B-side to “Go Your Own Way.”
“This is the B-side, the Fleetwood Mac song that I happen to love so much,” Love says, introducing the track. During the guitar solo, the singer settled deep into character, twirling her scarf and spinning in circles.
Jepsen added a contemporary pop edge to 1982’s “Hold Me,” the lead single from Mirage. Her Christine McVie-meets-“Call Me Maybe” approach is highlighted by bubbly dance moves.
The first night’s sleeper vocal victory went to comedian Sarah Silverman, who nails Nicks’ trademark rasp on the chorus to 1977’s “Go Your Own Way.” She introduced the performance with a hilarious fake-out, telling the audience, “This is a deep cut – a really slow-paced deep cut ballad I think you’re really gonna love. One of those songs you never really hear when you hear the catalog of Fleetwood Mac, but I think you’ll enjoy it anyway. I’m just kidding. It’s this.”
A grand finale clip found the evening’s performers – including Alison Mosshart and Perry Farrell – uniting for double-header of “The Chain” and “Don’t Stop.”
Fleetwood Mac Fest will continue Wednesday, February 10th at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre. Other scheduled performers include Joanna Newsom, Dhani Harrison, Cold War Kids and Will Forte. Proceeds from the event will benefit Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and The Sweet Stuff Foundation.
