Jon Snow Stars in Ominous, Flashback-Heavy ‘Game of Thrones’ Teaser
Jon Snow features heavily in the first teaser for Season Six of Game of Thrones, but unsurprisingly, the gripping clip only stokes the question of the character’s fate that fans have been mulling since June’s bloody finale.
The 40-second spot opens on Snow, very much alive, while an ominous voice speaks of history and the unknown future. “The past is already written, and the ink is dry,” the voice says prior to an intense montage comprising the show’s most gruesome hits. The deluge, of course, ends with Snow — spoiler alert! — on the ground after apparently being fatally killed for committing treason agains the Night’s Watch.
But before the spot ends, an image of Bran Stark — finally set to return after missing Season Five — appears, his eyes rolling back into his head. “They have no idea what’s going to happen,” another voice teases.
The clip is a fitting follow-up to the first poster for the new season of Game of Thrones, which reignited the rumors that Snow either survived the attack, or is poised to come back from the dead. But at a Television Critics Association press tour in June, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo was adamant about Jon Snow’s fate. “Dead is dead is dead is dead,” he said. “He be dead. Yes. Everything I’ve seen and heard and read, Jon Snow is indeed dead.”
Game of Thrones returns to HBO in April 2016.
