’10 Second Songs’ Singer Feels Like a ‘Rap God’ in 40 Different Styles
Following a teaser last week for his 20th video release on the 10 Second Songs channel, Anthony Vincent celebrated his YouTube milestone by tackling Eminem‘s ferocious hit “Rap God” in 40 different styles.
Vincent notes in the clip that fans have been requesting the Eminem track for a long time. The relatively long song gave the singer enough room to test out 40 different musical styles on it, twice as many as the YouTube star usually provides for his popular covers. Beginning with the original, Vincent weaves through a diverse selection of artists, including Slipknot, Daddy Yankee, Aqua, Björk, Linkin Park and, most peculiarly, Elmo.
Vincent also gives fans nods towards Eminem’s references to other rappers. When Pharoahe Monch and Heavy D & the Boyz are cited in the lyrics, Vincent swiftly begins imitating those artists.
The musician’s band Set the Charge had even done their own cover of the veteran rapper’s lyrically dexterous song. The “Rap God” cover follows a collaboration with “edutainment” vlogger Matthew Santoro titled “10 Songs, 10 Styles, 10 Facts.” Prior to the collaboration, Vincent enlisted fans to help him write an original song titled “City Streets.” Though the chorus had been crafted by him, YouTube commenters provided lyrics along with suggestions for the style they should be sung in.
