Watch Jake Owen’s Ridiculous Rap About ‘Putt Puttin”
If there’s one thing abundantly clear about Jake Owen, it’s that the “American Country Love Song” singer doesn’t ever take himself too seriously. And a new video, which Owen apparently made while soaking up some downtime before the release of his forthcoming LP, American Love, is proof: In it, Owen and crew rap about their beloved pastime of putt-putt mini golf, complete with jokes about blue balls and a little shark massaging. Appropriately titled “Putt Puttin’,” the clip was filmed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with the country singer — who actually went to Florida State University on a golf scholarship — and his “entourage” from video production team That’s Classic Media.
Owen, who made a memorable entrance to last week’s CMA Fest by arriving via boat, is gearing up for the release of American Love, out July 29th. The album includes everything from a track co-written by – and featuring the vocals of – Chris Stapleton, to plenty of Owen’s signature sing-talk tone and some unexpectedly twangy moments that put the true breadth of his range on display. And, yes, ample opportunity for Owen to showcase his playful, beach-bound attitude.
“These songs make me love what I do,” Owen tells Rolling Stone Country. “And they make me feel young, and they make me want to stay that way.”
