Watch Jon Hamm, Emma Stone Audition for ‘Star Wars’ on ‘SNL’
A role in the upcoming, never-ending Star Wars series is among the most contested gigs in cinema, and with less than a month before The Force Awakens hits theaters, director J.J. Abrams visited Saturday Night Live to share a sizzle reel of all the A-list actors who auditioned for a part in the Star Wars universe.
The longstanding SNL audition sketch often allows cast members to showcase their best celebrity impressions, but what makes this version unique is that Emma Stone, Jon Hamm and The Force Awakens stars Daisy Ridley and John Boyega appear as themselves screen testing for Abrams.
In addition to on-point impersonations of Shaquille O’Neal, George Lucas, Sofia Vergara and Maggie Smith, the sketch also pokes fun at the sci-fi genre: Boyega laughs about the existence of a black Stormtrooper (his role in the actual movie) while “Chris Tucker” auditions for a role dressed as his eccentric The Fifth Element character.
The real Michael Bublé even stops by to serenade Ridley with “Makin’ Whoopee,” albeit in the Star Wars universe, it’s “Makin’ Wookie.” However, the highlight comes when a brazen Hamm comes roaring into the audition and attempts to rewrite Star Wars mythology by renaming the character “Hamm Solo.”
