Watch Garbage’s Dizzying ‘Empty’ Video
In Garbage‘s new video for “Empty,” cameras spin around the alt-rockers amid seizure-inducing strobe lights. “I’ve been feeling so frustrated/ I’ll never be as great as I want to be,” sings Shirley Manson in signature self-loathing mode.
“To me, this record, funnily enough, has the most to do with the first record than any of the previous records,” Manson said in a statement. “It’s getting back to that beginner’s headspace. In part, that’s a result of not having anyone to answer to.” “Empty” is the lead single from the band’s upcoming sixth LP, Strange Little Birds, out June 10th via their own Stunvolume label.
Manson told Rolling Stone that she addresses more mature themes: “I feel like every time you make a record you feel like, this might be the last record I make. I might die tomorrow. I may as well try and speak about the things I want to speak about now. The record – at least from a lyrical standpoint – is a romantic record. What I mean by romantic is just that it is vulnerable, and it is fragile.”
