Faith No More Cut Up Creepy Horror Noir for ‘Separation Anxiety’ Video
Faith No More cut up clips from the 1955 horror-noir film, Dementia (also known as Daughter of Horror) in the distressing, engrossing new video for “Separation Anxiety.”
The Sol Invictus track’s tense, pounding guitars and drums alongside Mike Patton’s hoarse whisper pair well with the eerie footage, in which a woman’s tortured past drives her to stab a man trying to take advantage of her. As “Separation Anxiety” finally bursts, the woman flees the scene of the crime and out-maneuvers the cops, but winds up caught in the clutches of a maniacal crowd and her anguished subconscious.
Faith No More released Sol Invictus in May. The record marked the band’s first since 1997’s Album of the Year and followed a 15-year hiatus, as well as several years on the reunion-tour circuit.
The band was afforded an unprecedented level of autonomy on Sol Invictus, which they released on their own Ipecac Recordings sub-label Reclamation. “For us to be able to come and say this is the music that we want to make and to have people try to judge that on its own merits without it being colored by other fuckers and other history and other weirdness is exciting for me,” drummer Mike Bordin told Rolling Stone.
