Tina Fey, Fallon Exchange ‘First Impressions’ of Morgan Freeman, Elmo
Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon cracked up through a series of silly, on-the-spot imitations of Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman and more on The Tonight Show‘s recurring game, “First Impressions,” Monday.
While impressions, by her own admission, have never been Fey’s strong suit, Fallon — an ace impressionist — introduced the bit by cajoling his former “Weekend Update” co-anchor into showing off her hilarious Robert De Niro face. After some tinkering, Fey nailed the jowly, eye-rolled look and proceeded to dive into “First Impressions” with the same vigor as Liz Lemon aping Oprah and Jerry Seinfeld to their faces on 30 Rock.
Fey opened the game with Jack Nicholson reviewing an Adele concert — “That little gal’s got a heck of a set of pipes on her,” she wheezed — which Fallon thought could’ve also been Matthew McConaughey. The Tonight Show host then wobbled through a great Barbara Walters and had Fey confusing Morgan Freeman for Billy Bob Thornton’s Sling Blade character, while the actress broke out a bombastic lisp for Sofia Vergara and a shrill, pitch-perfect Elmo.
