See Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick’s Sweet ‘True Colors’ Cover
Justin Timberlake and his Trolls co-star Anna Kendrick performed a tender, acoustic cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” at a footage screening of the DreamWorks Animation film before the Cannes Film Festival. Trolls will hit theatres this November, while the soundtrack will come out on September 23rd.
Timberlake, who is both the film’s musical director and lead voice actor, strummed his acoustic guitar as he and Kendrick shared vocal duties on the song. The pair turned the already emotional ballad into an even softer, more intimate track.
The footage screening of Trolls was part of a festival first, according to Deadline. It is the first time that the Palais has hosted a festival-approved footage screening, with only 25 minutes of the animated feature shown at the venue.
Though the film and its soundtrack are not due until this fall, both Timberlake and Kendrick have already begun heavily promoting the film, which is based off the famous, big-haired dolls. Timberlake debuted his first new song in three years — “Can’t Stop This Feeling!” — last week, which will appear on the film’s soundtrack. He will also perform the single at the Eurovision Song Contest, which is making history this year by letting the “non-contestant global superstar” take the stage and streaming the finals on American television for the first time.
