Blake Shelton on Gwen Stefani Duet, ‘Voice’ Strategy: The Ram Report
It’s an even playing field on The Voice tonight, as each coach enters the competition with three singers on their respective teams. But Blake Shelton is always strategizing to get the upper hand over fellow coaches Adam Levine, Pharrell and Gwen Stefani. And even though the No Doubt singer and country’s most famous smart aleck are now officially a couple, Shelton says he won’t be cutting his rock-star girlfriend any slack.
“No matter how kind I may be to Gwen when it’s just her versus Adam, I’m still in this thing to win it,” says Shelton, who nonetheless admits to a case of nerves now that the live shows have begun. “The [first live] episode and the finale are the two most nerve-wracking episodes for me every season, because you find out what your team is really made of as far as this kind of pressure,” he says.
With Shelton and Stefani having already engaged in a prescient “Endless Love” lip-sync battle on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, fans have been speculating that the pair will record a real duet. Shelton has been playing coy, however. “Man, I read that we wrote a duet together,” he says. “I tell you, I read all kinds of amazing stuff.”
One bit of news is confirmed, however. Once his obligations on The Voice are through, Shelton will hit the road on a winter tour with “Buy Me a Boat” singer Chris Janson in tow. The trek kicks off February 18th in Cincinnati.
