Nikki Sixx Talks Scott Weiland’s ‘Confusing, Tragic, Beautiful’ Career

"This is a little bit dark, but Scott took my bus and was sleeping in the same bed that I was sleeping in," Sixx says of tour bus where Weiland died

Mötley Crüe‘s Nikki Sixx remembered Scott Weiland‘s legacy and recalled his own struggles with drug addiction in the latest episode of the bassist’s Sixx Sense radio show. “Unfortunate death, confusing death, wonderful career and a confusing career. Tragic and beautiful,” Sixx said of Weiland. “Sadly, what people think a rock star is: Come from nothing, blow up and die. I don’t like that version of the story.”

While Sixx admitted that he wasn’t close friends with Weiland – “I don’t know much about Scott personally; we’ve run in some of the same circles” – the Stone Temple Pilots singer’s struggle with drugs resonated with the bassist. However, while Sixx managed to kick his habit after having children, Weiland could not.

“Scott had two children, was on the road – I don’t know his state of drug use or not – but the part that just rips my heart out is that these kids… who called them? Did the bus driver call them? Does the road manager call the mom and the mom sits [them] down? Forget the videos for a second and those songs you heard on the radio. It rips my heart out.”

Sixx then revealed that the tour bus he rode on during the October leg of Mötley Crüe’s Final Tour was the same one where Weiland was found dead. “This is a little bit dark, but Scott took my bus and was sleeping in the same bed that I was sleeping in,” Sixx said. “And, you know, he was found dead on the bus. And I was just, like, ‘God…’ It’s like so crazy to think how close we all are.”
