Watch a Boxer Dressed as Batman Fight the Joker at a Press Conference
Despite his name, Tyson Fury is not a superhero. But he plays one at press conferences.
Or at least this press conference, held Wednesday in London to promote Fury’s upcoming bout with Wladimir Klitschko, the reigning WBA, IBF, IBO and WBO Heavyweight Champion. In an effort to hype the October 24 fight – or perhaps to summon some Spandex-clad strength – Fury showed up dressed as Batman, sat down behind the microphone and prepared to answer questions, until he was interrupted by someone dressed as The Joker. No, we’re not making this up.
Batman – or, uh, Fury – then leapt over the table and wrestled his adversary to the ground, knocking several championship belts off a stand in the process. The two tussled for a moment before Fury stood above his foe, adjusted his cape and pointed at Klitschko, shouting, “This was a fool, just like you are! Look at him! That’s how you’ll be looking when you face me!” It should also be noted that the theme to the campy, 1960s Batman TV show was playing the entire time.
Klitschko, who hasn’t lost a fight in eleven years, didn’t seem all that impressed (to be fair, his permanent setting is “Stoic,”) though when asked for his reaction, he did play along, telling reporters “I don’t know who those masked men were.”
In July, Fury said he was preparing to rid the boxing world of the boring Klitschko – who will be fighting in his record-breaking 28th heavyweight title bout next month – saying, “[He] has about as much charisma as my underpants – zero.”
Never change, boxing.
