Watch Spoon’s Britt Daniel Honor George Harrison With Live ‘I Me Mine’
An eclectic group of musicians – including Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, the Flaming Lips and “Weird Al” Yankovic – united for 2014’s George Fest, a concert event honoring the late George Harrison. Spoon‘s Britt Daniel paid tribute with a dynamic live performance of the Beatles‘ “I Me Mine,” a Harrison-penned classic from 1970’s Let It Be.
The above clip – a teaser from live release George Fest: A Night To Celebrate The Music Of George Harrison – finds the indie-rock veteran nailing the nuance of that underrated Fab Four tune, shifting from tender verses to explosive, bluesy choruses. George Fest will be available as a 2-CD/DVD, 2-CD/Blu Ray, 180 gram 3-LP and digital download on February 26th via Hot Records Ltd. and Vagrant Records.
George Fest also features performances from the Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Conan O’Brien, Heart’s Ann Wilson, Dhani Harrison, Perry Farrell and the Strokes’ Nick Valensi, among others.
“I’ve always imagined a small club show where my generation of musicians could cut loose on some of the deeper tracks from his career,” Dhani Harrison said in a statement. “So, in a totally new and vibrant way, I once again found myself taking the stage with some of my most treasured musical heroes to the sound of the most familiar music in my life. I hope you enjoy listening to these as much as I do. They are some of the best interpretations of my father’s songs I could have ever thought possible.”
