Hear Giorgio Moroder Give My Morning Jacket a Disco Makeover
My Morning Jacket‘s The Waterfall standout “Compound Fracture” has received an unexpected four-on-the-floor remix courtesy of disco king Giorgio Moroder, who radically transforms the track from an infectious toe-tapping rocker into a dance floor monster. Moroder’s work especially shines on the song’s anthemic chorus, where the producer pairs Jim James’ peaking vocals with synth stabs straight out of Erasure’s “A Little Respect.” The remix, which arrived accompanied by a Rohitash Rao-made visualizer, is available to purchase now through iTunes.
“The song was great to begin with. There is so much energy in their music that lends itself naturally to the electronic world,” Moroder said in a statement. “The first time I heard the song, I was immediately inspired to add the essence of disco without taking away from the existing melody. This remix will make people smile; make them want to dance.” This isn’t My Morning Jacket‘s first foray into dance music: The rockers previously dabbled in the genre with their Evil Urges cut “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Part 2.”
The Moroder remix arrives two weeks after My Morning Jacket unveiled their Danny Clinch-directed music video for “Compound Fracture,” filmed both onstage and behind the scenes during the band’s recent concert at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. “The spirit and electricity we felt playing at Red Rocks was one of the most magical experiences we’ve ever had,” the band said in a statement.
My Morning Jacket continue to tour in support of their 2015 LP The Waterfall, with their current trek culminating in a four-night stand at New York’s Beacon Theatre on November 24th, 25th, 27th and 28th.
