Watch Dave Navarro’s Emotional Trailer for Doc About Mother’s Murder
A new documentary, Mourning Son, will chronicle the loss and fear Dave Navarro has felt since the 1983 murder of his mother, Constance. The trailer for the film begins with a news report about the killing, which also took the life of Connie’s friend Sue Jory, before cutting to a shot of the Jane’s Addiction guitarist looking sullen in the backseat of a car while saying, “It changed my life forever.”
The film includes footage of the trial of murderer John Riccardi, an ex-lover of Connie’s who went on the run for nearly a decade before being caught after America’s Most Wanted ran a segment on the case. It also shows how Navarro coped with the loss, his head bleeding as he provides “ink” for a portrait of his mother made from his own blood.
“It’s the most profound moment of my life, and I don’t think I should sweep it under the rug anymore,” he says. “It just was the darkest, most horrible moment of my life.” He goes on to talk about how, as he became famous, he feared for his life since Riccardi was still on the loose. “I had lost my mother and I almost lost everything before that,” he says in the film.
Navarro executive produced the film, which was helmed by director Todd Newman, who was previously a writer for Spread TV and Married … With Children. The movie is set for a December 1st release via VOD and cable On Demand.
