Watch Boy George, Jack Black, Doors’ Robby Krieger on ‘Conan’
Fifty years after they formed, the Doors helped unite Culture Club’s Boy George with fellow fan Jack Black on Conan Monday night, when the unlikely pair were joined by the band’s original guitarist Robby Krieger to perform “Hello, I Love You.”
During Boy George’s interview, Conan O’Brien asked the New Wave singer about his musical influences. After the singer listed the Doors between the Beatles and Bowie, O’Brien feigned surprise by the inclusion of the short-lived band in the mostly goth- and glam-leaning list.
“What’s wrong with the Doors? The Doors are rad,” guest Jack Black interjected. Black went on to repeatedly mention how the band’s late lead singer Jim Morrison had “the best yell.” O’Brien then requested that the two sing a Doors track together and noted that Krieger was already onstage with his guitar in hand.
Black put on a pair of black sunglasses before the two proceeded to sing a joyful cover of the band’s poppiest single. Black hopped up and down the staircase, with both performers surrounding Krieger as he blasted through his signature guitar solo.
Last year, Culture Club reformed and announced their first album of new material in 15 years. The tour was originally scheduled to begin last November, but the band was forced to cancel dates after Boy George was diagnosed with a throat polyp. The rescheduled tour kicks off this month.
Jack Black’s new show, The Brink, premiered on HBO in June. Black stars alongside Tim Robbins in the dark comedy centering on a geopolitical crisis in Pakistan.
